Students from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program (EPA), Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, carried out an Magang Berdampak Program in collaboration with PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan. This program represents the implementation of experiential learning, aiming not only to enhance students’ competencies but also to deliver tangible benefits to local communities within the company’s operational areas.

The internship program focuses on community empowerment, particularly assisting Kelompok Tani Persada and Kelompok Tani Hutan (KTH) Alam Pusaka Jaya. The activities emphasize strengthening agrosilvopastoral practices, an integrated system combining agriculture, forestry, and livestock in a sustainable manner. In addition, students contributed to the development of plant nurseries as part of efforts to support sustainable production and land rehabilitation, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. read more

Organic waste management remains a significant challenge in Indonesia, requiring innovative and collaborative solutions. One promising approach is maggot cultivation, which offers an efficient and environmentally friendly method for processing organic waste. In response to this issue, two alumni from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada—majoring in Agricultural Extension and Communication—are actively involved in a research project examining stakeholder perceptions of maggot cultivation practices. read more

The UGM KKN-PPM team conducted a Farm Financial Literacy Program as a step to empower farmers through a foundational understanding of financial record-keeping and management for their farming businesses. The program aims to enable farmers to independently plan, monitor, and evaluate the financial condition of their farming operations.

Through this initiative, farmers were introduced to the importance of recording harvest yields, production costs, and other expenses. The education also covered simple methods for managing cash flow, calculating net profits, and planning capital for the next planting season. The KKN team provided practical solutions, including a recommendation to use the RekTanigama digital record-keeping application, which helps farmers organize their financial data neatly and systematically. read more

Intan Nur Khasanah, a student from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Program, Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, has completed a 50-day Community Service Program (KKN) in Karanggondang Village, Mlonggo Sub-District, Jepara Regency, Central Java. Together with her team, Intan implemented various initiatives under the theme “Optimizing Coastal Area Potential through Technology Integration, Economic Empowerment, and Environmental Sustainability for Community Welfare.” These activities not only delivered tangible benefits to the local community but also aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). read more

Lalita Amaranggana Priyahita, a student from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Department, Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), recently completed her Community Service Program (KKN) in Bungintimbe Village, Petasia Timur Sub-District, North Morowali Regency, from July 25 to August 3, 2025. Under the theme “Optimizing Environmental Management, Disaster Resilience, and Sustainable Tourism Development through Community Empowerment,” Lalita and her team implemented key programs, including the Green School Movement, Disaster-Ready School Initiative, and Village Food Security Program. These initiatives were carried out in collaboration with strategic partners such as PT Stardust Estate Investment, PT Agro Nusa Abadi, the North Morowali BPBD, and the North Morowali Local Government. read more

This solemn event highlighted Mega Santifa Sebayang, the top graduate, who was not only recognized for her academic achievements but was also entrusted to deliver a speech on behalf of the students. The University of Siena became his choice for exploring education abroad because it offers courses relevant to EPA, such as International Economics, Methods for Social Science Analysis, and Corporate Social Responsibility. Khosyi Adam Surya Atmaja and Muhammad Harya Kurniawan, students from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, carried out a Community Service Program (KKN) in Fajar Baru Village, Ketahun District, North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province. For 50 days, from July 1 to August 19, 2024, they conducted various community empowerment programs focusing on strengthening MSMEs and institutional capacities.

The primary focus of this KKN was to assist the people of Fajar Baru Village in maximizing agricultural potential and addressing various socio-economic challenges. One of the main initiatives implemented was the dissemination of information on the use of organic fertilizers derived from oil palm waste and the digitalization of farm record-keeping through the “PATRIOT GAMA” program. Additionally, they introduced the latest agricultural technology by organizing a workshop on solar-powered pest traps in the intercropping of horticulture and oil palm, as well as training on making eco-enzyme from household organic waste. read more

For 50 days, Ian Satya Lusanto and Endang Setyoasih, students from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, carried out their Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) or community service in Karatung Tengah Village, Nanusa District, Talaud Islands Regency. In this remote area, they explored the village’s agro-maritime potential and worked to elevate the creative economy and tourism based on community empowerment to achieve sustainable welfare.

Their KKN theme focused on the Optimization of Agro-Maritime Potential through Creative Economy and Tourism Based on Community Empowerment. Amidst the natural beauty and hospitality of the local residents, Ian and Endang directed their efforts toward revitalizing the village garden, analyzing farming businesses, utilizing home gardens, and conducting socialization on organic fertilizer production. read more
