Widyakarya in Thailand, MEP UGM Students Deepen Their Understanding of the Integrated Sugar Industry

Students of the Master of Agricultural Economics (MEP) Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, particularly the National Sugar Synergy (SGN) collaborative class, participated in a Widyakarya program in Thailand in April 2026. The program was designed to broaden students’ perspectives on the transformation of the sugarcane value chain and the integrated sugar industry from upstream to downstream within a global context.

During the program, students visited several strategic institutions in Thailand, including the Thailand Sugarcane Breeding Center (TSBC), the Sugarcane and Sugar Industry Promotion Center, Thai Sugar Mills Corporation, and the New Krung Thai Sugar Mill and Ethanol Plant. Through these visits, students gained firsthand experience in understanding the development of a modern sugar industry supported by technological integration, research, supply chain strengthening, and product diversification. read more

Fast Track Student from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics UGM Named Best Graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture

Another proud achievement has been accomplished by a student from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Alexandros Candra Febrian, a student of the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program (PKP), was named the best graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture during the Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony for Period III of the 2025/2026 Academic Year held on Wednesday, May 21, 2026.

Alexandros achieved an impressive Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.98, reflecting his dedication, consistency, and hard work throughout his academic journey at the Faculty of Agriculture UGM. In addition to his outstanding academic performance, Alexandros is also recognized as a fast-track student who pursued an accelerated academic pathway as part of the university’s academic development program. read more

Sosek Department Students of Universitas Gadjah Mada Participate in AIMS Fall 2025 at Universitas Ibaraki, Strengthening Internationalization

The participation of students from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada in international programs reflects the department’s strong commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education. One of its students, Hosana Adel Ivory from the Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics Study Program (class of 2022), was selected to join the AIMS Fall 2025 student exchange program at Universitas Ibaraki, Japan.

The program was conducted during the odd semester of the 2025 academic year, from September 2025 to January 2026, offering both academic and cultural enrichment. During the program, Hosana, along with other students from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM (cohorts 2022 and 2023), participated in various courses delivered by lecturers at Ibaraki University. In addition, they gained broader academic perspectives through guest lectures conducted by faculty members from Universitas Tsukuba. This international academic environment encouraged students to develop critical thinking skills, intercultural communication, and a deeper understanding of global agricultural issues. read more

Magang Berdampak Program of PKP UGM Student in an Energy Cooperative: Learning Community Empowerment from the Field

This is reflected in the experience of a student from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, who participated in an internship at the Cakrawala Nusantara Energy Producer Cooperative (ECN) located in the Tanjung Awar-Awar Steam Power Plant, Tuban Regency. read more

International Academic Collaboration: UGM MEP Students Undergo Joint Thesis Supervision in Denmark

Panca Rahadi, S.P., a graduate student from the Master of Agricultural Economics (MEP) Program at the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), was selected to participate in the Erasmus+ Student Mobility Programme, a collaborative initiative between UGM and Aarhus University, Denmark, funded by the European Commission. The three-month program was specifically designed to support research activities, allowing Panca to focus on developing his master’s thesis at the Department of Environmental Science, Aarhus University. read more

Magang Berdampak Program of EPA UGM Students at PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan: Advancing Community Empowerment and Sustainable Agrosilvopastoral Practices

Students from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program (EPA), Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, carried out an Magang Berdampak Program in collaboration with PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan. This program represents the implementation of experiential learning, aiming not only to enhance students’ competencies but also to deliver tangible benefits to local communities within the company’s operational areas.

The internship program focuses on community empowerment, particularly assisting Kelompok Tani Persada and Kelompok Tani Hutan (KTH) Alam Pusaka Jaya. The activities emphasize strengthening agrosilvopastoral practices, an integrated system combining agriculture, forestry, and livestock in a sustainable manner. In addition, students contributed to the development of plant nurseries as part of efforts to support sustainable production and land rehabilitation, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. read more

Retirement Gathering of Prof. Dwidjono Hadi Darwanto: Honoring a Lifetime of Dedication at the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics UGM

The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a retirement gathering in honor of Prof. Dr. Ir. Dwidjono Hadi Darwanto, S.U. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The event took place from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, marking a meaningful occasion to celebrate his dedication and contributions to academia.

The event was attended by a wide range of participants, including Prof. Dwidjono’s family, fellow lecturers, former classmates, faculty leaders such as the Dean and Vice Deans, heads of study programs (PKP, EPA, MMA, and MEP), the Head and Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, administrative staff, as well as several of his former students. This diverse attendance reflected the strong academic network and personal bonds he built throughout his career. read more

Sosek UGM Syawalan Gathering: Strengthening Bonds Through Togetherness

The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Family Gathering (Syawalan) on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The event took place from 09.00 to 13.00 WIB at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, and was attended by the entire Sosek community.

This event served as an important momentum to strengthen ties among the academic community, including administrative staff, lecturers, retirees, along with their families, and several student representatives. The presence of multiple generations in one gathering reflects the strong sense of kinship that continues to be maintained within the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics. read more

Strengthening Sustainable Waste Management: The Role of Sosek UGM Alumni in Maggot Cultivation Research

Organic waste management remains a significant challenge in Indonesia, requiring innovative and collaborative solutions. One promising approach is maggot cultivation, which offers an efficient and environmentally friendly method for processing organic waste. In response to this issue, two alumni from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada—majoring in Agricultural Extension and Communication—are actively involved in a research project examining stakeholder perceptions of maggot cultivation practices. read more

Farming is Cool: Building Personal Branding and Modern Agricultural Business

The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, successfully organized a guest lecture on Thursday, April 2, 2026. This activity was part of the Entrepreneurship course, aimed at enriching students’ insights into business opportunities and challenges, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Carrying the theme “Farming is Cool: Building Personal Branding & Modern Agricultural Business”, the event was held at the MMA Auditorium, Building A10, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, from 11:00 to 12:50 WIB. The session featured Jamaludin Nur Ridho, a young entrepreneur and the Owner and Founder of Jamal Farming Cendawan Jamur Jogja. read more
