On Thursday, November 9, 2023, the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, which is under the auspices of the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, carried out a community service activity entitled “Training on Making Gembus Tempe Chips from Tofu Waste.” This event was held in Pacarejo, Semanu, Gunung Kidul, and was attended by representatives of the Prima Melati Sambirejo Village group and KWT Ngudi Lestari Ngrombol 2 Karangmojo.

This community service activity was carried out to provide practical knowledge to the public regarding using tofu waste to make economically valuable products, such as tempe gembus chips. This activity is not just a form of contribution from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program to the community but also a commitment to local economic empowerment. read more

Agricultural Socioeconomic Week (ASW) is an annual entrepreneurship seminar organized by the Agricultural Socioeconomic Student Family (KMSEP). This activity was held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, and was attended by 160 participants from the general public and students. This event is a platform for UGM Faculty of Agriculture students to increase their insight and motivation in developing business in the agricultural sector. This year’s theme raised at ASW is “Learn and Act: Increasing Entrepreneurial Attitudes in the Agricultural Sector,” reflecting the enthusiasm for learning and acting to increase the entrepreneurial spirit in the agricultural sector. This theme aims to provide motivation and guidance for students interested in developing business in agriculture while also showing the importance of concrete action in facing challenges in the field. read more

On October 25, 2023, one of the study programs from the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics, namely the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), held a community service activity aimed at providing practical knowledge about processing organic waste using a stacked bucket system. On October 25, 2023, the Postgraduate Graduation procession for the 1st period of the 2023/2024 Academic Year was successfully carried out on the Gadjah Mada University Campus. This event witnessed the success of the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics postgraduate students, who completed their education at master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) levels. Mutiarra Ridyo Arum, a Master’s student in Agricultural Economics, won the Best Graduate of the Department of Agricultural Social Economics title at the Masters (S2) level. On the other hand, at the doctoral level (S3), the best graduate award was won by Amelia Murtisari, who showed dedication and perseverance in carrying out her education so far. read more

One of the UGM Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics study programs, namely the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, recorded brilliant achievements by achieving International Accreditation from ASIIN (Accreditation in Engineering Computer Sciences Natural Sciences Mathematics), an accreditation institution leading at the international level. International accreditation for this study program is valid from 23 September 2022 to 30 September 2028. This success results from the dedication, hard work, and commitment of the UGM Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program to provide high-quality education to its students. read more

Since 2014, this activity has become a regular event that raises significant themes related to various research in the socio-economic field of agriculture. From 30 August to 1 September 2023, the Department of Agricultural Socio-economics, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), again held a Curriculum Development Workshop for three days. This activity aims to improve the quality of academic services and teaching and learning activities within the UGM Department of Social Sciences.

Starting the Workshop with Enthusiasm

The first day of the workshop was the start of a series of ambitious activities. The event was officially opened by the UGM Department of Agricultural Socio-economics Chair, Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec.. The agenda continued with socialization about SIMSEPA, a platform specifically designed to support all aspects of academic activities, both for lecturers and students. With SIMSEPA, it is hoped that educational administration and management processes can run more efficiently, allowing greater focus on the teaching and learning process. read more

As the main speaker, Prof. Dr. ARAI Watanabe Sachiho brings deep experience and knowledge in agriculture, especially related to the structure of agriculture and capitalism. He is a highly respected scientist at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology who has made significant contributions to the understanding of how agricultural systems can develop and adapt in an ever-changing global economic context. read more

A historic moment was again among the extended family of the Department of Agricultural Socio-economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University (UGM). On August 24, 2023, the UGM Social and Social Affairs Department succeeded in graduating 53 graduates and female graduates from two study programs, namely the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program and the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program. In this enthusiastic moment, 4 graduates of the Department of Agricultural Socio-economics graduated with the title “very satisfactory,” and the remaining 49 received the title “with honors.” read more
