The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, recently organized a guest lecture on Monday, March 30, 2026. The session was held from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Extension Room, PKP Laboratory, A2a Building, 3rd Floor, and was attended by students enrolled in the photography course.
Carrying the theme “Fashion as a Language: What Your Style Says About You”, the guest lecture featured Andhita Andrajati, a Fashion Stylist from Route Production Bali, as the speaker. The presence of a creative industry practitioner provided students with a fresh perspective on photography, particularly within the agricultural context.
This activity was conducted as an effort to enhance students’ ability to observe, capture, and convey stories through visual media. In her presentation, Andhita Andrajati emphasized that photography is not merely a tool for documentation, but also a powerful medium of communication that can build narratives, strengthen messages, and increase the appeal of a subject.
In line with the theme, students were encouraged to see agriculture from a different perspective. One of the key points discussed was the concept of personal style, which goes beyond clothing choices and reflects how individuals wish to be perceived and recognized by others. In the context of photography, understanding personal style becomes essential in building a strong visual identity, both for individuals and the subjects being portrayed, including the agricultural sector.
Through the perspective of a fashion stylist, students were also introduced to how visual elements such as color, composition, style, and expression can be utilized to create compelling storytelling. This approach offers new insights that agriculture does not have to be presented in a conventional manner, but can instead be packaged in an aesthetic and communicative way, making it more relevant in today’s media landscape.
This guest lecture is expected to enrich students’ competencies, particularly in integrating creativity and visual communication into the agricultural field. As a result, students are encouraged to produce photographic works that are not only informative but also inspiring and artistically valuable.
Furthermore, this activity contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through the enhancement of practice-based learning and collaboration with industry practitioners. It also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by encouraging innovation in delivering agricultural messages through creative visual media. Additionally, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production is relevant, as engaging visual presentation can help raise public awareness of sustainable agricultural products and practices.
