From August 12-15, 2024, students from the 23rd batch of the Master of Agricultural Economics (MEP) program at the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, conducted a study tour (widyakarya) to Malaysia. This activity was part of a mandatory course aimed at broadening students’ perspectives by visiting prominent institutions in Malaysia, such as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Beryl’s, and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI).

On Monday, August 19, 2024, the Department of Socio-Economic Agriculture (Sosek) at the Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, held an Orientation for New Students and Financial Literacy Seminar at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium. This event was an important step in introducing new students to the Sosek academic environment while providing valuable insights into effective financial management in the digital age.
In this event, Sosek collaborated with Bank Mandiri to feature Ibu Evi Mariati, S.P., an alumni of the Department of Sosek, as the main speaker. Ibu Evi, accompanied by Bapak Daniel and Ibu Yulia Ayu, delivered content focused on the importance of financial literacy and prudent financial management. The new students attended the various sessions with high enthusiasm, gaining knowledge and skills necessary for effective and secure financial management.
On July 7, 2024, a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM carried out a community service activity in Dusun Ngariboyo, Desa Kepuh, Kecamatan Nguter, Kabupaten Sukoharjo. This activity focused on the utilization of home gardens for vegetable cultivation, with the goal of enhancing food security and community well-being through the optimization of local resources.
The participating lecturers included Hariyani Dw Anjani, S.P., M.Sc., and Asih Kusumaningsih, S.P., M.Sc. from the Department of Social Economics Agriculture, as well as Dr. Ega Adhi Wicaksono from the Department of Fisheries. They provided outreach on the importance of home garden utilization and guided practical sessions covering seedling practices, land preparation, vegetable planting, plant care, and compost production. Additionally, the community was taught how to make compost, which is a crucial step in supporting sustainable agriculture.
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, conducted a community service activity at the Pusat Pelatihan Pertanian dan Perdesaan Swadaya (P4S) Tani Merbabu, Ngablak, Magelang. This activity, themed “Training on Digital Farming Recordkeeping and Stacked Buckets for Composting,” aimed to provide farmers with new knowledge and skills in digitally recording their farming activities and utilizing simple technology for composting.
On August 1-2, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek) at UGM’s Faculty of Agriculture held a Curriculum Development Workshop in Madiun, East Java. This event aimed to enhance the quality of academic services and teaching processes within the Sosek Department, as part of preparations for the upcoming academic year.
The two-day event was attended by faculty members from the Sosek Department, who actively participated in the scheduled activities. The main agenda of the workshop was to discuss the development of a new curriculum as well as preparations for course administration, fieldwork, the Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM), and final thesis projects.
Yogyakarta, July 28, 2024 – The Faculty of Agriculture at UGM, particularly the Department of Agricultural Social Economics, held a retirement ceremony to honor the contributions and dedication of Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., who has served for 44 years. The event, held at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, was attended by colleagues, alumni, students, and faculty leaders.
The ceremony began with warm remarks from the Department Chair, Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D. Both expressed high appreciation for Prof. Sunarru’s contributions to advancing the field of agricultural social economics at UGM.
The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, celebrated its third postgraduate graduation on July 24, 2024. The event, held at the Hardjono Danoesastro Auditorium, marked a significant milestone for 26 graduates, including 24 masters and 2 doctoral candidates.
The Department of Agricultural Social Economics (Sosek) is thrilled to announce the achievements of its graduates. Out of the 26 graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture, 13 were from Sosek, showcasing the department’s commitment to producing high-quality graduates.
Yogyakarta, 12 July 2024 – The Master of Agribusiness Management (MMA) Study Program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) successfully carried out study tour activities (widyakarya) to Malaysia on July 1–3, 2024. This activity was attended by class 47 students and the supervisor, namely Mrs. Dr. Ir. Lestari Rahayu Waluyati, M.P., and Mrs. Arini Wahyu Utami, M.Sc., Ph.D., with the aim of studying best practices in agribusiness management in Malaysia and triggering innovation in Indonesia.
This Widyakarya is part of MMA UGM’s commitment to improving the quality of education and providing valuable learning experiences for its students. Through visits to well-known agribusiness companies in Malaysia, such as Sime Darby, Gardenia Bakeries, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, students have the opportunity to learn various aspects of agribusiness management, from upstream to downstream.
Yogyakarta, 2 July 2024 The Faculty of Agriculture at UGM held a focus group discussion (FGD) with the theme “People’s Sugarcane Governance as an Effort to Strengthen the Supply of Raw Materials Towards National Sugar Self-Sufficiency in 2028.” This event will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Prof. Auditorium. Hardjono Danoesastro, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University.
This FGD presented several resource persons, including two experts from the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics at UGM. Prof. Dr. Irham, M.Sc., expert from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, delivered material about the institutions of smallholder sugar cane farmers. Meanwhile, Prof. Subejo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., an expert from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, acted as moderator.
Yogyakarta, 27 June 2024 The Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics (Sosek Agriculture) at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) received a visit from the Agribusiness Study Program of Musamus University, Merauke, on June 26–27, 2024. This visit aims to increase the capacity and quality of preparing department accreditation documents for Agribusiness, Faculty of Agriculture, Musamus University, which currently has superior status (BAN PT) towards ASIIN (International).
The Musamus University delegation, consisting of Dr. Ineke Nursih Widyantari, S.Pd., M.Sc. (Chair of the Agribusiness Department, Musamus University) and Abdul Rizal, S.Pt., M.P. (Secretary of the Agribusiness Department, Musamus University), was warmly welcomed by Dr. Ir. Subejo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Deputy Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM.
