Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec. was officially inaugurated as a Professor at Universitas Gadjah Mada in the field of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. The inauguration ceremony took place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. WIB at the UGM Senate Hall and was conducted in a solemn and dignified manner.
The inauguration proceedings commenced with an opening by the Chair of the Board of Professors of Universitas Gadjah Mada, followed by the reading of the Excerpt from the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, which served as the legal basis for the appointment. This ceremony marked the highest academic recognition of Prof. Jangkung’s dedication and scholarly contributions to the development of agricultural economics and agribusiness.
On this occasion, Prof. Jangkung delivered his professorial inaugural lecture entitled “Food Self-Reliance as a Golden Bridge to Minimizing Food Dependency and Realizing Food Sovereignty and National Welfare.” In his lecture, he emphasized that food self-reliance constitutes a fundamental strategy to reduce dependence on food imports while strengthening national food security and sovereignty.
Furthermore, Prof. Jangkung highlighted the strategic role of agricultural economics and agribusiness management in supporting sustainable agricultural development. Strengthening agribusiness institutions, integrating food policies, and managing development risks were identified as key factors in building a resilient national food system that prioritizes the welfare of farmers and the wider community.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of government officials and key stakeholders from various institutions, including Dr. Akhmad Musyafak, S.P., M.P. (Secretary of the Directorate General of Food Crops), Ir. Rohmad Supriyadi, M.Sc. (Secretary of the Deputy for Development Control, Evaluation, and Risk Management at Bappenas), Dr. Teddy Dirhamsyah, S.P., MAB. (Head of the Agricultural Training Center, Ministry of Agriculture), Wiwin Suryawati, S.P., M.P. (Secretary of the Agriculture and Food Security Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta), and Hery Sulistio Hermawan, S.Pi., M.T. (Head of the Fisheries Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta).
Following the inauguration ceremony at the UGM Senate Hall, the event continued with a thanksgiving reception held at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium. The reception was conducted in a warm and convivial atmosphere and was attended by family members, colleagues, members of the academic community, and professional partners, who conveyed their congratulations on Prof. Jangkung’s achievement of the highest academic rank.
The inauguration of Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec. as Professor is expected to further strengthen the contribution of Universitas Gadjah Mada, particularly in advancing agricultural economics and agribusiness studies, as well as in supporting policy formulation and sustainable development in the national agricultural sector.
The inauguration of Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., along with the ideas presented in his inaugural lecture, demonstrates strong relevance to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the context of agricultural development, food security, and community welfare, including SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, and SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth.
