Yogyakarta, 12 July 2024 – The Master of Agribusiness Management (MMA) Study Program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) successfully carried out study tour activities (widyakarya) to Malaysia on July 1–3, 2024. This activity was attended by class 47 students and the supervisor, namely Mrs. Dr. Ir. Lestari Rahayu Waluyati, M.P., and Mrs. Arini Wahyu Utami, M.Sc., Ph.D., with the aim of studying best practices in agribusiness management in Malaysia and triggering innovation in Indonesia.
This Widyakarya is part of MMA UGM’s commitment to improving the quality of education and providing valuable learning experiences for its students. Through visits to well-known agribusiness companies in Malaysia, such as Sime Darby, Gardenia Bakeries, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, students have the opportunity to learn various aspects of agribusiness management, from upstream to downstream.
“Indonesia and Malaysia have similarities in the agribusiness sector, but Malaysia is considered more advanced in its management,” said Dr. Ir. Lestari Rahayu Waluyati, M.P., Head of the UGM Agribusiness Management Master’s Study Program. “Through this widyakarya, we hope that students can learn the best practices of agribusiness in Malaysia and trigger innovation in Indonesia.”
During three days in Malaysia, MMA UGM students took part in various activities, such as presentations from agribusiness experts, group discussions, and field visits. Students also have the opportunity to see firsthand how agribusiness companies in Malaysia apply innovative technology and strategies to increase productivity and competitiveness.
It is hoped that this widyakarya can make a positive contribution to the development of agribusiness in Indonesia. By studying best practices from Malaysia, MMA UGM students can become agents of change who encourage innovation and progress in the agribusiness sector in the country. UGM’s Master of Agribusiness Management (MMA) study activity in Malaysia is an effort that is in line with the Sustainable Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 2: Zero Hunger. Through this activity, MMA UGM students are expected to learn best practices in agribusiness management, which can help increase productivity and food security in Indonesia.
