Master of Agribusiness Management UGM Visits Malaysia to Learn Agribusiness Best Practices

Yogyakarta, 12 July 2024 – The Master of Agribusiness Management (MMA) Study Program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) successfully carried out study tour activities (widyakarya) to Malaysia on July 1–3, 2024. This activity was attended by class 47 students and the supervisor, namely Mrs. Dr. Ir. Lestari Rahayu Waluyati, M.P., and Mrs. Arini Wahyu Utami, M.Sc., Ph.D., with the aim of studying best practices in agribusiness management in Malaysia and triggering innovation in Indonesia.

This Widyakarya is part of MMA UGM’s commitment to improving the quality of education and providing valuable learning experiences for its students. Through visits to well-known agribusiness companies in Malaysia, such as Sime Darby, Gardenia Bakeries, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, students have the opportunity to learn various aspects of agribusiness management, from upstream to downstream. read more

Lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics Provide Solutions for Strengthening People’s Sugarcane Governance Towards National Sugar Self-Sufficiency in 2028

Yogyakarta, 2 July 2024 The Faculty of Agriculture at UGM held a focus group discussion (FGD) with the theme “People’s Sugarcane Governance as an Effort to Strengthen the Supply of Raw Materials Towards National Sugar Self-Sufficiency in 2028.” This event will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Prof. Auditorium. Hardjono Danoesastro, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University.

This FGD presented several resource persons, including two experts from the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics at UGM. Prof. Dr. Irham, M.Sc., expert from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, delivered material about the institutions of smallholder sugar cane farmers. Meanwhile, Prof. Subejo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., an expert from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, acted as moderator. read more

UGM Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics Receives a Visit from the Musamus University Merauke Agribusiness Study Program

Yogyakarta, 27 June 2024 The Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics (Sosek Agriculture) at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) received a visit from the Agribusiness Study Program of Musamus University, Merauke, on June 26–27, 2024. This visit aims to increase the capacity and quality of preparing department accreditation documents for Agribusiness, Faculty of Agriculture, Musamus University, which currently has superior status (BAN PT) towards ASIIN (International).

The Musamus University delegation, consisting of Dr. Ineke Nursih Widyantari, S.Pd., M.Sc. (Chair of the Agribusiness Department, Musamus University) and Abdul Rizal, S.Pt., M.P. (Secretary of the Agribusiness Department, Musamus University), was warmly welcomed by Dr. Ir. Subejo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Deputy Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. read more

Students Experiences from the UGM Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics in the Independent Campus Learning Program

The Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM) is an initiative from the Ministry of Education that allows students to take courses outside their study program and carry out activities outside campus through various learning activities. This program aims to help students develop themselves holistically. In the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, Class of 2021 students from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program (Prodi EPA) and the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program (Prodi PKP) participated in this MBKM program. read more

Exploring the Beauty of White Sand Beach in Southeast Maluku

For Ines, a 2020 Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program student, Real Work Lectures (KKN) is a call to contribute to society, especially in Indonesia’s Disadvantaged, Frontier, and Outermost (3T) regions. Therefore, in the KKN-PPM UGM Period 2 2023, Ines chose to carry out service in the Southeast Maluku Regency, especially in the Ohoi Dian Darat area, Hoat Sorbay District.

Ines was inspired by several of her seniors who had also served on Kei Island. The desire to see firsthand the conditions of communities outside Java, as well as the beauty of the white sand beaches on the Kei Islands, was the main trigger for Ines to choose KKN in Southeast Maluku. Moreover, the white sand beach in Kei is known as the beach with the finest white sand on the Asian continent. read more

KKN Story from The Highest Village in Java

Haidar, a student of the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program class of 2020, carried out the UGM PPM Real Work Lecture (KKN) period 2 of 2023 in Sembungan Village, Kejajar District, Wonosobo Regency, Central Java. This village is famous as the highest village on the island of Java and has a unique commodity, namely carica fruit. Haidar chose KKN in Sembungan Village because he was interested in carica fruit, which can only be grown in certain places. Apart from that, Haidar wants to gain new experience in agriculture in the highlands and enjoy the beauty of natural tourism in the area. read more

Building Student Entrepreneurial Spirit through Entrepreneurship Expo 2024

On Friday, July 7, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, for the first time, held an activity entitled “Entrepreneurship Expo 2024.” This event is part of the Entrepreneurship Course practicum initiated by a team of lecturers and assistants from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program (EPA Study Program). This activity was enthusiastically attended by 24 practical entrepreneurial stands from groups B.4, B5.1, and B5.2.

The main objective of this Entrepreneurship Expo is to realize business model canvas ideas and business designs or business plans prepared during the practicum meeting. This activity provides practitioners with the opportunity to not only learn theory but also apply it in real life. Through this activity, students can develop entrepreneurial skills and foster enthusiasm to continue to innovate and do business. read more

    Lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), also contributed to the prestigious international event, the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), in Bali on 18-25 May 2024. This global meeting forum aims to discuss critical issues related to water, such as water resource management, access to clean water, sanitation, etc. With the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity,” this edition of WWF brings together global participation, knowledge exchange, innovative technology exhibitions, and a shared commitment to sustainable water solutions. read more
