Orientation for New Students and Financial Literacy Seminar

On Monday, August 19, 2024, the Department of Socio-Economic Agriculture (Sosek) at the Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, held an Orientation for New Students and Financial Literacy Seminar at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium. This event was an important step in introducing new students to the Sosek academic environment while providing valuable insights into effective financial management in the digital age.

In this event, Sosek collaborated with Bank Mandiri to feature Ibu Evi Mariati, S.P., an alumni of the Department of Sosek, as the main speaker. Ibu Evi, accompanied by Bapak Daniel and Ibu Yulia Ayu, delivered content focused on the importance of financial literacy and prudent financial management. The new students attended the various sessions with high enthusiasm, gaining knowledge and skills necessary for effective and secure financial management. read more

Story of KKN Sosek: Exploring the Potential of Oil Palm in Bengkulu

Khosyi Adam Surya Atmaja and Muhammad Harya Kurniawan, students from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, carried out a Community Service Program (KKN) in Fajar Baru Village, Ketahun District, North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province. For 50 days, from July 1 to August 19, 2024, they conducted various community empowerment programs focusing on strengthening MSMEs and institutional capacities.

The primary focus of this KKN was to assist the people of Fajar Baru Village in maximizing agricultural potential and addressing various socio-economic challenges. One of the main initiatives implemented was the dissemination of information on the use of organic fertilizers derived from oil palm waste and the digitalization of farm record-keeping through the “PATRIOT GAMA” program. Additionally, they introduced the latest agricultural technology by organizing a workshop on solar-powered pest traps in the intercropping of horticulture and oil palm, as well as training on making eco-enzyme from household organic waste. read more

Story of KKN Sosek: Unleashing Agro-Maritime Potential and Creative Economy in the Talaud Islands

For 50 days, Ian Satya Lusanto and Endang Setyoasih, students from the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, carried out their Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) or community service in Karatung Tengah Village, Nanusa District, Talaud Islands Regency. In this remote area, they explored the village’s agro-maritime potential and worked to elevate the creative economy and tourism based on community empowerment to achieve sustainable welfare.

Their KKN theme focused on the Optimization of Agro-Maritime Potential through Creative Economy and Tourism Based on Community Empowerment. Amidst the natural beauty and hospitality of the local residents, Ian and Endang directed their efforts toward revitalizing the village garden, analyzing farming businesses, utilizing home gardens, and conducting socialization on organic fertilizer production. read more

Community Service Update: Utilization of Home Gardens in Kepuh Village

On July 7, 2024, a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM carried out a community service activity in Dusun Ngariboyo, Desa Kepuh, Kecamatan Nguter, Kabupaten Sukoharjo. This activity focused on the utilization of home gardens for vegetable cultivation, with the goal of enhancing food security and community well-being through the optimization of local resources.

The participating lecturers included Hariyani Dw Anjani, S.P., M.Sc., and Asih Kusumaningsih, S.P., M.Sc. from the Department of Social Economics Agriculture, as well as Dr. Ega Adhi Wicaksono from the Department of Fisheries. They provided outreach on the importance of home garden utilization and guided practical sessions covering seedling practices, land preparation, vegetable planting, plant care, and compost production. Additionally, the community was taught how to make compost, which is a crucial step in supporting sustainable agriculture. read more

Community Service Update: Training on Digital Farming Recordkeeping and Stacked Buckets for Composting

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, conducted a community service activity at the Pusat Pelatihan Pertanian dan Perdesaan Swadaya (P4S) Tani Merbabu, Ngablak, Magelang. This activity, themed “Training on Digital Farming Recordkeeping and Stacked Buckets for Composting,” aimed to provide farmers with new knowledge and skills in digitally recording their farming activities and utilizing simple technology for composting. read more

The Story of KKN Sosek: Agricultural and Environmental Innovations in Darma Village

Adelia Magda Firdausi, or Magda as she is affectionately known, is a student of the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program (PKP), class of 2021, at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Together with her KKN team, Magda spent 50 days in Darma Village, Darma District, Kuningan Regency, West Java. Under the theme “Village Potential Development and Community Empowerment,” they sought to make a positive impact on the community through various carefully designed programs. read more

Curriculum Development Workshop at UGM’s Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics: Enhancing Academic Service Quality

On August 1-2, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek) at UGM’s Faculty of Agriculture held a Curriculum Development Workshop in Madiun, East Java. This event aimed to enhance the quality of academic services and teaching processes within the Sosek Department, as part of preparations for the upcoming academic year.

The two-day event was attended by faculty members from the Sosek Department, who actively participated in the scheduled activities. The main agenda of the workshop was to discuss the development of a new curriculum as well as preparations for course administration, fieldwork, the Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM), and final thesis projects. read more

Retirement of a Distinguished Professor: The 44-Year Service of Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S.

Yogyakarta, July 28, 2024 – The Faculty of Agriculture at UGM, particularly the Department of Agricultural Social Economics, held a retirement ceremony to honor the contributions and dedication of Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., who has served for 44 years. The event, held at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, was attended by colleagues, alumni, students, and faculty leaders.

The ceremony began with warm remarks from the Department Chair, Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D. Both expressed high appreciation for Prof. Sunarru’s contributions to advancing the field of agricultural social economics at UGM. read more
