Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics UGM Conducts SIMSEPA Socialization for Digital Administrative Transformation

On November 12-13, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, successfully held the SIMSEPA (Agricultural Socio-Economics Management Information System) Socialization. This event marked a strategic step toward achieving a more efficient, modern, and structured administrative management system to support academic and operational needs within the department.

The socialization was divided into two main sessions. On November 12, 2024, the event was conducted offline at the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics Building, targeting faculty members and administrative staff. Meanwhile, on November 13, 2024, the session for students was held online, allowing broader participation. read more

The Excitement of the 2024 Social and Economic Agricultural Assessment Practicum

Undergraduate students from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek) at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Class of 2022, successfully completed a Social and Economic Agricultural Assessment Practicum (PSEP) in Karangrejek Village, Wonosari Sub-district, Gunung Kidul Regency, from November 1-4, 2024. This practicum is part of a required course designed to deepen students’ understanding of rural farmers’ socio-economic conditions and identify issues within rural communities, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills for their future careers. read more

Agricultural Socio-Economics Scientific Visit: Regenerating Agriculture in Indonesia

From October 25-27, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics at UGM’s Faculty of Agriculture held a Scientific Visit (KUIL SOSEK) to IPB University in Bogor. With the theme “Young Farmer Regeneration,” this event aimed to broaden students’ knowledge and network while addressing the critical role of youth in sustaining Indonesia’s agricultural sector. Student representatives from the 2022, 2023, and 2024 cohorts participated, accompanied by two faculty members, Ms. Asih Kusumaningsih, S.P., M.Sc., and Ms. Hariyani Dwi Anjani, S.P., M.Sc., who actively contributed to guiding and facilitating the discussions. read more

Fostering Sustainable Agriculture: Lecturer of Agricultural Socio-Economics Partners with Kana Cooperative to Introduce Ringpit Technique in Agam

On October 29, 2024, a team of lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Irham, M.Sc., collaborated with Kana Cooperative and the Agam Regency Government to introduce sustainable farming techniques for sugarcane cultivation. The outreach event, held at the Nagari Lawang Village Office in Matur District, Agam Regency, invited local sugarcane farmers from Kanagarian Lawang and Kebagarian Tigo Balai to participate.

The UGM team provided diverse expertise through their presentations. Prof. Irham, as Head of the Outreach Team, introduced the ringpit technique, a soil and water conservation method. This method involves creating a ring-shaped pit around the sugarcane plants, which improves water and nutrient absorption efficiency. According to Prof. Irham, this technique holds substantial potential to significantly increase sugarcane productivity while promoting long-term soil sustainability in Agam. read more

Exploring Neuromarketing: Guest Lecture for Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Students

On October 30, 2024, the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a guest lecture titled “Applied Neuroscience: Neuromarketing”. The event, which took place at the MMA Auditorium, Building A10, Faculty of Agriculture, ran from 1:30 to 3:30 PM and was attended by students of the Agribusiness Management course, including several international exchange students. The guest lecture aimed to introduce and deepen students’ understanding of neuromarketing, an approach that integrates neuroscience with marketing strategies. read more

Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics Conducts SEM-PLS Data Analysis Training for Postgraduate Students

On October 16, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, held a training session titled “Data Analysis Using SEM-PLS” at the Venture Lab, AGLC Building, 6th floor. The event was attended by PhD students and several Master’s students from the Faculty of Agriculture who share a strong interest in quantitative data analysis methods. The training featured Ms. Tri Hanifawati, S.Si., M.Sc., a lecturer from Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung, as the speaker, and Mr. Daffa Sandi Lasitya, S.P., M.P., a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture UGM, as the moderator. This training aimed to enhance students’ capabilities in understanding and implementing the SEM-PLS data analysis method. read more

Students of Department Agricultural Socio-Economics Win Silver Medal in Diponegoro Science Competition 2024

A team of students from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, has once again made a remarkable achievement on the national stage. The team, consisting of Sarah Dear Hanny Damanik (Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program 2022), Lalita Ammaranggana (Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program 2022), and Fadhlurrahman Zain Lubis (Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program 2022), secured the Silver Medal in the Diponegoro Science Competition 2024, organized by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Universitas Diponegoro. read more

Sosek Student Achievements in the ICOBIOS X OBC 2024 Event at Brawijaya University

Muhammad Rafi Gunadi, a student from the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, and his team achieved remarkable success by winning the Gold Medal at the ICOBIOS X OBC 2024 competition. This prestigious event took place at Universitas Brawijaya from September 28 to 29, 2024, attracting participants from around the world.

Rafi Gunadi’s team earned this accolade through their innovative research titled “Scoby-Do Organic Media Engineering: Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast in Optimizing Bioplastic Production with Batch Fermentation”. The research focuses on developing bioplastics through synthetic biology by utilizing the symbiosis between bacteria and yeast to optimize bioplastic production efficiently via batch fermentation. read more
