The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, continues to foster international academic collaboration through a guest lecture in the Agricultural Development course held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The session featured a distinguished speaker from Pennsylvania State University, Prof. Ann R. Tickamyer, Professor Emerita of Rural Sociology and Demography. She delivered a lecture titled “Disaster, Climate Change, and Resilience through a Gender Lens: Indonesia, Australia, Alaska”, providing valuable insights into the role of gender in disaster recovery and climate resilience.
Yogyakarta, May 17–18, 2025 — The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continues to demonstrate its commitment to holistic student development by organizing a two-day soft skills training program. Held at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, the event was attended by undergraduate students from the 2021 to 2024 cohorts and was marked by high enthusiasm, interactive sessions, and meaningful learning experiences.
This training was designed to enhance students’ non-technical skills, including communication, collaboration, networking, adaptability, and time management — all of which are critical in both academic and professional settings. Beyond equipping participants with practical skills, the program also offered valuable opportunities such as the chance to become a teaching assistant, participate in department-funded research grants, and receive a certificate required for the undergraduate thesis examination.
Jogjajanan made a vibrant return in 2025 as one of the most anticipated biennial festivals by students of Universitas Gadjah Mada and the wider Yogyakarta community. Organized by the Student Association of Agricultural Socio-Economics (KMSEP) UGM, Jogjajanan 2025 became a melting pot of art, culture, cuisine, and youth creativity, presented through a series of inspiring and entertaining events. Carrying the theme “Nada Bumi” (The Earth’s Rhythm) and the tagline “Feel the Rhythm, Live the Moment,” the event captivated thousands of visitors with its unique and colorful concept.
Yogyakarta, May 9, 2025 — The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a Sharing Session featuring Dr. Sri Nuryanti, S.T.P., M.P., Director of Food Insecurity Control at the National Food Agency (Bapanas) and an alumna of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, UGM. The event carried the theme “Academic Contributions in the Pentahelix Model for Food Security Development” and took place at the Venture Room, 6th Floor, AGLC Building, Faculty of Agriculture UGM.
Running from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, the session was attended by lecturers and students of the Faculty of Agriculture UGM and officially opened by Prof. Subejo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration. Dr. Dyah Woro Untari, S.P., M.P., served as the moderator, facilitating a dynamic and engaging discussion.
As part of efforts to promote technology-based agricultural transformation, Lentera Desa, a platform developed by lecturers of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized an offline digital literacy training for millennial farmers and agricultural extension agents in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This event will be held from 2 to 7 May 2025. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of human resources in the agricultural sector to adapt to the dynamics of the digital era and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), continues to demonstrate its global relevance through the involvement of its lecturers and alumni in a collaborative research project funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). ACIAR is an Australian government agency that commissions agricultural research for development to improve livelihoods and food systems in partner countries. The project, titled “Preparedness and management of huánglóngbìng (HLB) to safeguard the future of citrus industry in Australia, China and Indonesia”, brings together institutions such as UGM, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI), and the Citrus Research Institute of Southwest University, China.
The Big Family of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics UGM Holds a Warm Syawalan Gathering
In a heartfelt effort to strengthen social bonds and commemorate the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1446 H, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Syawalan gathering on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Sendang Ayu Restaurant, Kalasan, Sleman. The event was attended by around 50 participants, including current faculty members, retired professors, and administrative staff.
The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming speech from the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and a strong sense of kinship within the academic environment. A speech was also delivered by retired professor Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., who encouraged all attendees to uphold noble values in both campus life and society at large.
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), proudly celebrated the achievements of its postgraduate students during the Graduation Ceremony held on Tuesday, April 23, 2025. The event took place solemnly at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM from 07:00 to 11:00 WIB, where graduates received their diplomas directly from their respective faculty deans.
Following the main ceremony at GSP, the event continued at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture. At this venue, the graduates received their academic transcripts as a record of their academic achievements. In addition, several awards were presented to outstanding students, including honors for the best graduate of the faculty, the best graduate of each department, and the fastest graduate.
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, held a special send-off ceremony for its postgraduate students on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The event took place at 1:00 PM in the MMA North Wing Classroom, Sosek Building, and was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, and prospective graduates who will soon be officially conferred their degrees by the university.
The ceremony began with the procession of the soon-to-be graduates entering the room, followed by an opening speech from the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, S.P., M.Ec. In his address, Prof. Jangkung shared heartfelt advice and encouragement, reminding the graduates to remain humble, uphold integrity, and actively contribute to society and the professional world after leaving UGM.
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), proudly celebrates a significant academic milestone. One of its esteemed lecturers, Prof. Dr. Jamhari, S.P., M.P., was officially inaugurated as a Professor in the field of Agricultural Marketing on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The inauguration ceremony took place solemnly at the UGM Senate Hall from 11:00 to 12:00 WIB.
The event commenced with opening remarks by the Chair of the UGM Board of Professors, followed by the reading of the excerpt from the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia regarding Prof. Jamhari’s appointment. The highlight of the ceremony was the professor’s inaugural speech, titled “Agricultural Marketing as an Accelerator of Agribusiness Development and Farmers’ Welfare Enhancement.”
