Yogyakarta, November 10, 2025 – The Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program (PKP), Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), welcomed a benchmarking visit from the Agricultural Extension Study Program of Andalas University (Unand). The visit aimed to deepen understanding and enhance the quality of education in agricultural extension by learning from the best practices implemented by PKP UGM.
During the meeting, both institutions discussed several key topics related to academic development, including the design of Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL) implemented by PKP UGM to prepare graduates who are adaptive and competent in facing professional challenges. UGM also shared the results of its teacher study, which focuses on improving teaching quality and pedagogy through reflective academic practices.
The discussion further explored the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program carried out by PKP during the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. This program enables students to gain learning experiences beyond the classroom, develop practical skills, and broaden their perspectives on real-world challenges. In addition, the field practicum activities applied in the PKP curriculum were highlighted as one of the study program’s strengths, allowing students to engage directly in community-based projects that benefit rural development.
An important innovation introduced by PKP UGM is the use of Desa App and Lentera Desa, two digital platforms designed to support rural community empowerment through technology. This initiative reflects PKP UGM’s commitment to integrating digital innovation into agricultural education while responding to the challenges of rural development in the digital era. The Unand delegation also gained insights into PKP UGM’s journey toward ASIIN international accreditation, which serves as a testament to the program’s dedication to achieving global standards in education and academic management.
This benchmarking visit is expected to mark the beginning of a strategic collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada and Andalas University in the fields of education, research, and community service, particularly within agricultural extension and communication. Through continuous exchange of knowledge and joint initiatives, both institutions are committed to contributing to the advancement of human resource development and higher education in agriculture across Indonesia.
This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the enhancement of innovative and inclusive learning approaches; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through the integration of digital technologies in agricultural extension; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through inter-university collaboration to strengthen knowledge sharing and educational excellence.
