In a heartfelt effort to strengthen social bonds and commemorate the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1446 H, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Syawalan gathering on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Sendang Ayu Restaurant, Kalasan, Sleman. The event was attended by around 50 participants, including current faculty members, retired professors, and administrative staff.

The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming speech from the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and a strong sense of kinship within the academic environment. A speech was also delivered by retired professor Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., who encouraged all attendees to uphold noble values in both campus life and society at large.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of tokens of appreciation to two recently retired professors: Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., and Prof. Dr. Ir. Masyhuri. The gesture served as a tribute to their years of dedication and service to the department.

The event continued with an Eid sermon delivered by Drs. H. Agus Triyanta, M.A., M.H., Ph.D., who reminded the audience to embrace the spirit of forgiveness, solidarity, and spiritual reflection as part of the Eid tradition. This was followed by a recitation of the Syawalan pledge, a group photo session, greetings among attendees, and a shared lunch in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This gathering reflected the department’s commitment to intergenerational appreciation and social harmony, while also supporting several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by promoting mental and spiritual wellness through faith-based and community activities.

SDG 4: Quality Education, by fostering respect for educators and building a strong academic ethos across generations.

SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, through the reinforcement of institutional bonds, appreciation, and collaboration within the academic community.

Through this Syawalan event, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics UGM reaffirms its commitment to growth, unity, and the pursuit of inclusive and sustainable agricultural education.
