
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a graduation send-off ceremony for its postgraduate students on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. This event served as a tribute and expression of appreciation for the academic achievements of students from the Master of Agricultural Economics (MEP) and Master of Agribusiness Management (MMA) programs who are set to participate in the official graduation ceremony for the July 2025 period.
Held in the MMA Seminar Room, the event was attended by 12 graduating students. The ceremony began with the reading of the graduates’ names, followed by their individual entrance into the room in a solemn and respectful manner. A sense of joy and emotion filled the atmosphere, shared among students, lecturers, and academic staff who gathered to witness this meaningful moment.
In his address, Prof. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., Head of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, conveyed his messages and hopes to the graduates. He encouraged them to continue developing the knowledge they had acquired, not only for their personal career advancement but also to make a real contribution to society. He emphasized the importance of upholding integrity, maintaining professional ethics, and building strong networks to face the challenges of the workforce and future agricultural development.
A speech on behalf of the graduating students was delivered by Herina Azizah Thawafia, the department’s top graduate this period, who earned a perfect GPA of 4.00. In her remarks, Herina expressed gratitude to the faculty and staff for their guidance and support throughout her academic journey. She also shared her hopes that fellow graduates would become agents of change in promoting a more just, sustainable, and inclusive agricultural development.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo session, symbolizing togetherness and marking the end of a meaningful academic journey. This send-off was not merely an administrative step toward graduation but also a moment to reaffirm the Department’s commitment to producing graduates who are ethical, professional, and dedicated to advancing society and the agricultural sector in Indonesia.
This event also aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4: Quality Education, through the provision of higher education that fosters critical thinking, innovation, and competence in agricultural socio-economics.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by producing graduates ready to contribute to the agricultural and agribusiness sectors, thereby promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
SDG 2: Zero Hunger, as graduates are expected to formulate policies and innovations that support food security and sustainable agricultural systems.
Through this occasion, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics reaffirms its role in producing high-quality human resources who are ready to meet global challenges and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
