
Yogyakarta, May 16, 2025 – The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek), Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held a socialization event for the Agro Ekonomi Journal, attended by 15–20 participants from various educational levels, ranging from undergraduate (S1) to doctoral (S3) students. The event took place on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 09:45 to 11:00 AM at the MMA Auditorium, A10 Building, and was carried out smoothly with great enthusiasm from attendees.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., Head of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, UGM. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of writing and publishing scientific works among students.
“Scientific publication is not only a benchmark of academic achievement but also a tangible form of our contribution to solving agricultural issues in Indonesia,” said Prof. Jangkung.
The session was moderated by Dasy Ratna Sari, S.P., Administrator of the Agro Ekonomi Journal, with Agus Dwi Nugroho, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., Editor-in-Chief of the journal, as the main speaker. In his presentation, Agus provided a detailed explanation of the article publication process in Agro Ekonomi Journal, covering writing techniques, manuscript submission mechanisms, and the stages of the peer-review process. He also shared essential tips for crafting scientific articles that meet the standards of accredited journals.
Participants from various academic levels showed a high level of interest throughout the event. The discussion was interactive, with numerous questions raised, particularly regarding publication opportunities for undergraduate students, strategies to avoid predatory journals, and techniques for responding to reviewer comments.
“Collaboration between undergraduate students and their supervisors or more advanced students can be an effective strategy to initiate publication,” Agus responded to one of the participants’ questions.
As a SINTA 2-accredited journal, Agro Ekonomi serves as a crucial platform for advancing agricultural economics in Indonesia. The journal focuses on agricultural economics, food policy, and agribusiness, and is published twice a year in June and December. It is currently indexed by leading platforms such as DOAJ, Garuda, Dimensions, and Crossref, and operates under an open-access system that allows widespread access for readers.
This outreach activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, it supports SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing students’ capacity for scientific publication. Second, it contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by promoting innovative agricultural research. Third, it aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening academic networks across different levels of education.
“Each article published in Agro Ekonomi Journal is a real contribution to the advancement of agriculture in Indonesia,” Agus emphasized at the end of the event.
Through this journal, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics at UGM continuously opens opportunities for academics to contribute.
