The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM, through the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Study Program, successfully held a guest lecture on entrepreneurship on Wednesday, March 20, 2025. The event took place offline at the MMA Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Sosek A10 Building, featuring Mr. Janu Muhammad, S.Pd., M.Sc., the founder and CEO of Sayur Sleman, as the guest speaker. The session was attended by students enrolled in the entrepreneurship course under the theme “Building the Founding Team.”
During the session, Mr. Janu Muhammad shared insights and experiences about establishing Sayur Sleman, a startup focused on empowering local farmers through the concept of agri-social entrepreneurship. The topics covered in the lecture included:
- What is Your Big Way?
Starting a business should begin with identifying real market problems. Sayur Sleman provides solutions for farmers and market vendors by acting as an off-taker, creating both economic and social benefits. - Ideation
The first step in founding a startup is understanding market needs and offering the right solution. Sayur Sleman prioritizes finding consumers before developing products that match market demands. - Build a Team
A growing business requires a strong team. Sayur Sleman started with small capital but focused on building a solid team to ensure sustainable business growth. - Build a Strong Culture
A healthy and collaborative work culture is key to success, emphasizing open communication, farmer empowerment, and recognition of business partners’ contributions. - Prototype & Business Model
Developing a business model using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) helps Sayur Sleman define effective strategies from upstream to downstream, including delivery services and farmer partnership systems.
This guest lecture aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely:
- SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): Supporting entrepreneurship and sustainable businesses for local farmers and MSMEs.
- SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): Promoting innovation in agriculture through digital marketing and technology-based business models.
- SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Educating farmers and consumers about sustainable consumption patterns.
Through this event, students gained practical insights into the entrepreneurial world, particularly in building startups that are not only profit-driven but also socially impactful for the agricultural community.
