
The Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a graduation ceremony for Postgraduate candidates for the Second Period of the 2024/2025 Academic Year on January 22, 2025. The ceremony commenced at 10:00 AM and was attended by eight prospective graduates along with the department’s management team.
This solemn event highlighted Mega Santifa Sebayang, the top graduate, who was not only recognized for her academic achievements but was also entrusted to deliver a speech on behalf of the students. In her remarks, Mega expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support from the lecturers and staff of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics throughout her studies. She also encouraged her fellow graduates to continue contributing to society, aligning with the principles of sustainability and agricultural development that support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
One of the key points emphasized during the event was the expected contribution of the department’s graduates to actively realize the SDGs, particularly focusing on:
- SDG 1: No Poverty – inspiring graduates to become agents of change in alleviating poverty, especially in the agricultural sector.
- SDG 4: Quality Education – by continuing the legacy of postgraduate education programs to improve educational quality.
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – encouraging graduates to apply the theories learned during their studies into their professional lives and daily practices responsibly.
In her speech, the Secretary of the Department, Ratih Ineke Wati, emphasized that each graduate must become an agent of change, creating positive impacts in the agricultural and socio-economic sectors of Indonesia.
This graduation ceremony marked an important milestone for the prospective graduates as they prepared to embark on their professional journeys. With the SDGs as a guiding principle, the graduates of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, UGM, are expected to make tangible contributions to sustainable development.
