On November 23-24, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held a Soft Skills Training for its students. Conducted at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, the program aimed to enhance students’ soft skills as essential assets for their academic and professional journeys. Additionally, this training serves as a prerequisite for certain academic requirements, such as applying for teaching assistant roles and registering for thesis examinations.
The participants included students from the 2020-2023 cohorts, along with several students from earlier cohorts who had not attended previous training sessions. In collaboration with the Swaragama Training Center (STC), the event featured Gideon Surya P., S.Kom, as the keynote speaker, delivering inspiring and practical insights over the two-day program.
On the first day, the topics covered included Behavioral Ethics, Lifelong Learning, Generation Gaps, and Collaboration and Communication Networks. The second day focused on Goal Setting and Time Management. The interactive and engaging sessions encouraged active participation, complemented by exciting mini-games and door prizes for the best-performing teams.
The event was conducted successfully, with enthusiastic participation from students. It not only enriched their knowledge but also supported key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 4 – Quality Education, by offering training to enhance personal and professional skills.
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, through the provision of soft skills essential for career readiness.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering collaboration between academia and professional organizations, such as the Swaragama Training Center.
This training reflects the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics’ commitment to holistic student development, equipping them with the competencies needed to excel academically and professionally. May this program serve as a valuable resource for all participants in their journey toward becoming future-ready, competitive, and impactful graduates.
