The Agricultural Extension and Communication Program (PKP), part of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held an insightful guest lecture on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The event, titled “Planning Agricultural Extension Content Through Social Media,” took place in the Rural Lab on the 3rd Floor of Building A2.a and was attended by students of the Methods & Techniques of Agricultural Extension and Communication course, who were eager to learn effective and impactful digital extension methods.

The lecture featured guest speaker Ms. Laksita Gama Rukmana, S.P., from the Data & Information Unit of the Bengawan Solo River Basin Authority. Ms. Laksita shared her experiences and insights on developing extension content for social media that can reach a broad audience through relevant and engaging approaches. Students were introduced to practical strategies for creating agricultural content that is both educational and interactive, supporting impactful communication in the community, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Throughout the session, students were actively engaged, showing a strong interest in understanding how to plan and implement extension content through social media. This guest lecture aimed to equip them with valuable skills to support community empowerment, especially in rural areas, making crucial agricultural information more accessible.

At the end of the session, the course instructor, Dr. Alia Bihrajihant Raya, S.P., M.P., presented a token of appreciation to Ms. Laksita in gratitude for her contribution. This activity also reflects PKP’s commitment to facilitating students’ active roles in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  1. SDG 4 – Quality Education: This guest lecture provided students with new knowledge and skills, enhancing the quality of education that meets field demands, especially in the digital era.
  2. SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: By equipping students with skills in planning social media extension content, the event prepares them as future professionals who can drive economic growth through the agricultural sector.
  3. SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: Social media extension supports the development of more sustainable agricultural and consumption practices, encouraging communities to adopt environmentally friendly and responsible agricultural methods.

This successful event provided valuable benefits to the students and demonstrates PKP and the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics’ commitment to contributing to the SDGs through higher education and student empowerment.
