Yogyakarta, July 28, 2024 – The Faculty of Agriculture at UGM, particularly the Department of Agricultural Social Economics, held a retirement ceremony to honor the contributions and dedication of Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., who has served for 44 years. The event, held at the Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, was attended by colleagues, alumni, students, and faculty leaders.
The ceremony began with warm remarks from the Department Chair, Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Jaka Widada, M.P., Ph.D. Both expressed high appreciation for Prof. Sunarru’s contributions to advancing the field of agricultural social economics at UGM.
During the event, Prof. Sunarru’s career journey was commemorated through a touching video. The video featured testimonials and messages from various individuals who had interacted with him. Direct testimonials were also shared by several important figures, including:
- Dr. Ir. Roso Witjaksono, MS.: Representing the Department of Agricultural Social Economics, he expressed admiration for Prof. Sunarru’s dedication in guiding students and advancing knowledge.
- Prof. Dr. Ir. Susamto Somowiyarjo, M.Sc.: As a close colleague, Prof. Susamto shared engaging stories about their collaborative experiences with Prof. Sunarru.
- Mr. Opik Mahendra, S.P., M.Sc.: Representing the alumni, Mr. Opik conveyed heartfelt messages of gratitude for the mentorship provided by Prof. Sunarru.
- Azizah and her peers: Students who had been mentored by Prof. Sunarru also shared inspiring messages and reflections.
In his farewell speech, Prof. Sunarru conveyed meaningful insights, recounting his career journey, sharing experiences, and expressing hopes for the future of the Faculty of Agriculture at UGM. As a token of appreciation for his service, the Department of Agricultural Social Economics and the PKP Program presented Prof. Sunarru with a special memento. The retirement event concluded with a prayer led by Dr. Najmu Tsaqib Akhda, S.P., M.A., followed by a group photo session and a social gathering.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, M.S., has left an invaluable legacy for the Faculty of Agriculture at UGM. His dedication and passion for advancing knowledge and mentoring future generations will always be an inspiration to the UGM academic community. His remarkable contributions significantly align with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
