On August 1-2, 2024, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (Sosek) at UGM’s Faculty of Agriculture held a Curriculum Development Workshop in Madiun, East Java. This event aimed to enhance the quality of academic services and teaching processes within the Sosek Department, as part of preparations for the upcoming academic year.
The two-day event was attended by faculty members from the Sosek Department, who actively participated in the scheduled activities. The main agenda of the workshop was to discuss the development of a new curriculum as well as preparations for course administration, fieldwork, the Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM), and final thesis projects.
On the first day, the event began with the launch of Simsepa (Agricultural Socio-Economic Information System) by Dr. Najmu Tsaqib Akhda, S.P., M.A., and Muh Amat Nasir S.P., M.Sc. This launch marked an important step towards digitizing and improving the efficiency of academic information management within the Sosek Department. Following the launch, a presentation on the new curriculum was given by Dr.agr. Ir. Sri Peni Wastutiningsih, who explained the various adjustments and innovations that will be implemented in the upcoming semester’s learning process.
After the coffee break, faculty members continued the event with internal meetings for each study program, namely Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (EPA) and Agricultural Extension and Communication (PKP). These meetings were crucial for each program to discuss curriculum details and strategies for delivering more effective and relevant instruction to meet student needs.
On the second day, the faculty members started the day with a healthy walk at PSC (Pahlawan Street Center), an activity that not only promoted wellness but also strengthened relationships among faculty members. Following the walk, the event continued with a department-wide meeting to discuss the outcomes of the study program discussions from the previous day. This meeting resulted in several key recommendations for improving academic services, which will be implemented in the near future.
The workshop concluded with closing remarks by the Head of the Sosek Department, Dr. Jangkung Handoyo Mulyo, M.Ec., who expressed his appreciation to all faculty members for their active participation and valuable contributions throughout the workshop. Overall, the workshop was successful and ran smoothly. The faculty members gained new insights for conducting the upcoming semester’s courses. It is hoped that the outcomes of this workshop will have a positive impact on optimizing the quality of academic services in UGM’s Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, thereby producing graduates who are well-prepared and competitive in the workforce.
This event also supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4: Quality Education, with its focus on enhancing the quality of education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by preparing graduates for the workforce, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as reflected in the collaboration and innovation developed within the curriculum.
